About the Album

The names “Saint-Saėns,” “Enesco,” and “Roussel” may be familiar to music lovers, but to non-flutists, Taffanel, Gaubert, Ganne, and Godard may be mysteries. Flutists know that these composers wrote beautiful pieces for flute and piano. Some of the most worthwhile pieces of the “Paris Conservatory School” of composers are presented on this CD. Legendary flutist Marcel Moyse knew these composers, and at the age of 85 passed down the musical heritage of their style of interpretation to his then-nineteen-year-old protégé, Julia Bogorad. She and her worthy collaborator, renowned pianist Margo Garrett, present these works with not only virtuosity, but verve, heart, and soul, in a true audiophile recording. This CD is on the 10,000 Lakes label but may be purchased at this website.

Pianist Margo Garrett is well-known for her chamber, sonata and vocal recitals. Considered a leader among educators of collaborative pianists, she is a faculty member of The Juilliard School and was on the faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Music.
